“We at the Irish Association of Investment Managers are delighted that Seema Hingorani has been named as one of Forbes' 50 Over 50 women in investment,” said Chief Executive, Michael D’Arcy.
As Forbes says: "These are the women shaping the way money flows in the U.S—and beyond."
“We were fortunate to have Seema visit us in Ireland to explore how we can help have more female fund managers and more women in the boardroom. In 2024, it is incredible that little more than one in ten people in the industry working as portfolio managers are female,” added Michael.
Research earlier this year from The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) revealed that only 12% of investment trust managers are female.
The association’s #IAIMTY Programme aims to shine a spotlight on the opportunities in Ireland's asset management industry for everyone and ultimately attract more women into what is not only perceived as—but currently is—a male-dominated arena.
“It all helps, and some 80% of those who participated in the programme said they would be more likely to pursue a career in asset management,” added Michael.
This is also good news for investors. As Seema said: "Different perspectives are particularly important for risk management. The global financial crisis is a case in point. Within markets, we saw a situation where the same type of people were making the same types of decisions.
“When I founded Girls Who Invest, a nonprofit organisation designed to bring more young women into investment management careers, the need to challenge traditional thinking was very much in my mind.
“The idea is to make sure that these young women are well-prepared to enter the industry and understand that their voices are needed at the decision-making table."
Michael concluded: “We have a long way to go and look forward to working with Seema in the years ahead.”
